Tom Scanlon flow
Running throughout March 2007
Sauchiehall at Renfield St, Black Cab, Tom Scanlon, oil on canvas, 90 x 35 cm
Street-level scenes, blink-of-an-eye events captured in Tom's inimitable style. Using a high impasto technique, formed with palette knife alone, Tom captures flow and movement in these highly-textured oils. Echoes of informal street photography from the likes of Cartier-Bresson. Defying quick analysis, visitors to the Gallery tell us that they see more and fresh detail each time they look at his work. Close in on his paint surface to view the chaotic way that the pigments flow and colour-mix then step back to view how Tom takes advantage of this to build up his composition.
