Introducing new gallery artist - Sandra Moffat

by annanart
Saturday 4th July 2009

Sandra Moffat

Sandra's still life compositions reflect her training in textiles at Glasgow School of Art. They have the appearance of a richly coloured fabric, with flat, intricate patterns built up from the simplest of motifs. Her landscape paintings - shell sand bays and rocky islets - reflect a love of the Western Isles of Scotland - a frequent travel destination for her family. Even when capturing landscape, there are textile influences - the basalt columns of Fingal's Cave Storm have the appearance of a patchwork quilt draped over.

Working in mixed media, she builds up a textured ground that is overpainted with acrylic and highlights of oil pastel to give a three-dimensional look to the artwork that demands a close-up view.
