George Birrell has developed a style that is instantly recognisable in his architecturally-inspired paintings - 2D elevations, an emphasis on composition and saturated colours, invariably in a tight, square format - and not forgetting those lit windows!

Widely featured in galleries across the UK, George's work is always in demand, so we are particularly pleased to host his second major solo show here at the Annan Gallery.

Harbour of the Saint
Harbour of the Saint, mixed media, 46x46 cm

His imagined places are based on East Neuk fishing villages, small communities where life and work are pretty much under the same roof; where boat hulls, lobster pots, drying nets and oil drums mix with quirky fishermen's rows. These are tranquil, integrated communities and an escape hatch to a simpler life.

An accomplished, professional photographer, George loves to play with the effect of dawnlight and moonlight.on his imagined places.
