David Smith RSW

Born in 1957, David Smith is an award-winning Scottish Contemporary plein air landscape artist living and working just outside Glasgow.  His love of the outdoors, and hillwalking, mountaineering and sailing in particular, has taken him all over the world however the palette and inspiration for his work come from the seaboard and landscapes of Scotland.  

Although predominantly a self-taught artist, he has studied at various colleges including the Glasgow Print Studio, Glasgow College of Building and Printing, Glasgow School of Art and Latrobe University, Melbourne, Australia.  David was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) in 2011 and has shown at annual exhibitions at the The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (RGI), The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW), The Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) and The Paisley Art Institute (PAI).  In 2016 he became an Elected Member of the Council for the Scottish Artist's Benevolent Association.

His work is found in private, corporate and public collections throughout the UK and abroad including The House of Lords in London, the Swiss Consulate in Edinburgh, The Law Society of Scotland, the BBC Collection and Glasgow Caledonian University.
