James Orr
James was born in Glasgow and now lives in Ayrshire. He has been
painting for many years having studied part time at Glasgow School of Art.
He has developed a very distinctive style, painting in acrylics to
create landscapes with vibrant colour. His paintings are always bold and full
of light, and James is particularly attracted to the changing light found
around Scottish coastlines.
James’ bright scenes are full of activity and his style reflects
the golden period of Scottish art of the Scottish Colourists Peploe, Cadell and
the 'Glasgow Boys’.
He exhibits regularly in the annual RSA and RGI exhibitions and his
work is held in a number of collections, notably in the personal collection of
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. He is also a regular exhibitor in a number of London
galleries where the colour and vigour of his work are seen to mark him out as a
distinctively Scottish artist.
